Petite trousers that fit proportionally are not as hard to find as they used to be. Today, designers appreciate that the petite woman comes in all shapes and sizes (not just less than 5’ 3”!) – Merely shrinking styles made for long tall Sallys simply does not work. The belt loops are way too big; the rivets and buttons out of sync and even the stitching can look too large: The proportions of the style and sizing are paramount when choosing petite trousers.

Petite trousers are designed for the petite woman; therefore everything is in proportion and so they look right. Even so, like any other woman your size and shape will suit certain styles better than others. Low waist petite trousers suit the petite frame better than high waist. Avoid pleated styles. Fitted (not baggy) Capris style petite trousers that end just below the knee will make your legs look longer; these are very flattering for the petite woman.

Ideally the trousers should slightly drape over your shoes. When purchasing clothes from the petite section it still might be necessary to shorten the length. So do not become obsessed with length – Hey, you are use to shortening everything right! So go for a good fit…. and you’ll be fit to go (shorty!)
